Terminals by cruise line

Rome's cruise port is Civitavecchia, about 40 miles up the coast. Every big ship docks at the Roma Cruise Terminal berths, out on the long breakwater. Your line doesn't get a fixed terminal: the dock changes from one sailing to the next. Check your cruise documents for yours.

    Quick answers

    How we checked these answers

Every answer is built from facts we checked against the sources below and cross-checked with recent port guides. Where sources disagreed, the answer says so instead of guessing a number.

    Terminals & cruise lines

Where is the cruise port for Rome, and where do ships dock?

Rome's cruise port is Civitavecchia, about 40 miles up the coast, and every big ship docks at the Roma Cruise Terminal berths on its long breakwater. Port Mobility lists five cruise terminals there, including the Amerigo Vespucci and the newer Bramante, at piers 10, 11, 12, 12bis, 13, 13bis and 25. You can't walk out from the berths: a free port shuttle runs between the ships and Largo della Pace in town. See the terminals.

What terminal does Royal Caribbean use in Civitavecchia, and which lines sail from here?

Royal Caribbean has no terminal of its own in Civitavecchia: like every line, its ships usually dock at one of the Roma Cruise Terminal berths, and the port's October 2026 schedule shows the same line at different docks on different days. Lines on that schedule include Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Norwegian, MSC, Costa, Princess, Carnival, Holland America, Viking, Oceania, Regent Seven Seas and Cunard. Your dock is on your cruise documents. Find the terminal.

How far is Civitavecchia cruise port from Rome?

Civitavecchia cruise port is about 40 miles (roughly 70 km by road) from Rome. By regional train it's about 50 to 60 minutes to Roma San Pietro, the Vatican stop, and 75 to 85 minutes to Roma Termini. From Fiumicino Airport it's about 38 miles, roughly an hour's drive without traffic. Getting there.

Can my family drop me off at the ship in Civitavecchia?

Only as far as the terminal gates in Civitavecchia: private cars aren't allowed on the cruise quays, and Roma Cruise Terminal says companions can't come into the port area with you. Porters take your bags at the marked drop-off areas, where they're screened. Ships board from the free port shuttle's stops, not from the street. See the terminals.

    Hotels

Where should I stay before a cruise from Civitavecchia: Rome or near the port?

No hotel we checked in Civitavecchia or Rome runs its own shuttle to the cruise ships. If you stay in Civitavecchia, Largo della Pace is where the port's free shuttle to the docks leaves from. If you stay in Rome, regional trains to Civitavecchia run about every 30 minutes and take about 50 to 60 minutes from Roma San Pietro. Compare hotels.

    Parking

How much is parking at Civitavecchia cruise port?

Parking at Civitavecchia port's own car park, Parcheggio Nord, is €17 a day, VAT included. A week is €69 booked online or €79 on site from mid-May to October, and €59 online or €69 on site from November to mid-May. In town, Port Parking's Isonzo lot lists €13 a day, and ParkinGO lists from €5.50 a day open-air on a 7-day stay. Compare the lots.

Where do you park for a cruise out of Civitavecchia?

Inside the port, Port Mobility runs Parcheggio Nord, the only car park within Civitavecchia's gates: you drive in at Varco Vespucci, and a free shuttle takes cruise passengers from the car park to the ship and back. Two private lots run free shuttles too: Port Parking's open-air Isonzo lot, 70 metres from the port entrance, and ParkinGO, about 5 km out and open only 8:00 to 19:00. See parking.

    Getting there

Which airport is closest to Civitavecchia cruise port, and how far is it?

Rome Fiumicino (FCO) is the closest airport to Civitavecchia cruise port: about 38 miles by road, roughly 65 minutes without traffic, and Holland America allows about 90 minutes depending on traffic. Rome Ciampino (CIA) is about 54 miles away, roughly 70 minutes by car, on the far side of Rome. Getting there.

How do I get from Rome airport to Civitavecchia cruise port?

From Fiumicino to Civitavecchia cruise port you can take a taxi or the train. By train, ride toward Rome, change at Roma Trastevere for Civitavecchia, then take the €6 cruise bus from the station to the ships. From Ciampino it's two changes: the ATRAL bus to Ciampino station, a train to Roma Termini, then a train to Civitavecchia. Holland America gives about €130 for a taxi from Fiumicino. Getting there.

How much is a taxi from Rome airport to Civitavecchia cruise port?

Holland America puts a taxi between Fiumicino Airport and Civitavecchia cruise port at about €130 and says Uber Black is readily available. Going back from the ship, it warns that the wait for a taxi to the airport can be over 3 hours, so arrange your ride before you disembark. Getting there.

How do I get from Rome to Civitavecchia port?

From Rome to Civitavecchia port, take the regional train: trains run about every 30 minutes, and a ticket is €4.60 one way from Roma San Pietro, Trastevere or Ostiense, or €5 from Termini. The ride is about 50 to 60 minutes from San Pietro. On sailing days a €6 cruise bus runs from Civitavecchia station to the ships in about 15 minutes. Shuttle coaches to Rome also use Largo della Pace. Getting there.

Is there a free shuttle to the ship at Civitavecchia?

Yes: at Civitavecchia a free port shuttle runs between all the cruise docks and Largo della Pace, timed to the ships rather than a fixed timetable. From the train station, the €6 CSP cruise bus goes straight to the ships on sailing days; Holland America puts the walk from the station to the port entrance at about a mile. If you park at Parcheggio Nord, its free shuttle picks you up in the car park. Getting there.

    Embarkation day

What time should I arrive at the Civitavecchia cruise terminal?

Your cruise line sets your arrival time at Civitavecchia: Roma Cruise Terminal tells passengers to arrive when their line or travel agent says, and strongly advises against arriving late. Allow time for the drive or train in, since cars stop at the terminal gates. Porters take bags at the drop-off areas for screening. See parking.

Is there luggage storage at Civitavecchia cruise port?

No: there's no official luggage storage at Civitavecchia cruise port, and the terminals have none. Holland America says storage is available at Civitavecchia train station and near Varco Fortezza. On embarkation day, porters take your bags at the terminal drop-off areas. Getting there.
