Terminals by cruise line

Galveston has four cruise terminals, and your line decides which one you need. The port tells passengers to confirm the terminal for their ship before travelling, so treat this table as a starting point and check your cruise documents too.

Embarkation day

Every line that sails from Galveston gives you a check-in slot when you check in online, and that slot is the time to aim for. Arriving early doesn't get you on sooner. The port says its terminals usually open check-in around 10:30 to 11 a.m., and noon to 2 p.m. is the busiest stretch.

How each line handles it: Carnival has you pick one Arrival Appointment for everyone in your cabin. Royal Caribbean's slot is chosen in its app and shows on your boarding pass. Disney won't let you into the terminal before your Port Arrival Time. MSC assigns a slot that the lead guest can change in web check-in until two days out. Norwegian asks you not to turn up more than an hour before the time on your eDocs.

Leave time for more than check-in: parking, the lot shuttle and security all come before you board, and the port suggests at least 30 extra minutes for traffic on the causeway. Port parking opens at 9 a.m. on most sailing days.

Driving in? You can drop passengers and luggage at the terminal before you park. Porters meet arriving cars and take your checked bags, then you go and find your lot.

  • Sailing Carnival? Checked bags are taken until 2 hours before departure. After that, you carry them on.
  • Pay port parking by credit card. Cash isn't accepted.
  • Accessible (ADA) spaces can't be reserved in advance.
  • Port lot shuttles run about every 5 to 7 minutes, and many are wheelchair-accessible.

Quick answers

Facts last checked .

How we checked these answers

Every answer is built from facts we checked against the sources below and cross-checked with recent port guides. Where sources disagreed, the answer says so instead of guessing a number.

Terminals & cruise lines

Which terminal does Carnival or Royal Caribbean use in Galveston?

Carnival ships usually sail from Terminal 25 in Galveston, with some Carnival sailings across the road at Terminal 28, and Royal Caribbean uses Terminal 10, about a mile east on Harborside Drive. Disney sails from Terminal 28, and MSC and Norwegian from Terminal 16. The Port of Galveston tells passengers to confirm the terminal for their ship before travelling, so check your cruise documents too. See all four terminals.

What cruise lines sail from Galveston?

Five cruise lines sail regularly from Galveston: Carnival, Disney, MSC, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. Norwegian and Disney sail mainly from autumn to spring, and the Port of Galveston's schedule shows no Princess sailings from October 2026 to October 2027. The lines share four terminals on Harborside Drive, numbered 10, 16, 25 and 28. The terminal table shows which line uses which.

Can I drop off my luggage before I park at the Galveston cruise terminal?

Yes. At the Galveston cruise terminals you can drop off passengers and luggage at the terminal first, then go and park. The Port of Galveston says porters meet arriving cars and take your checked bags, so only the driver has to deal with the lot and the walk or shuttle back.

Parking

How much is parking at the Galveston cruise port?

Parking in the Port of Galveston's own lots runs $179.21 to $239.83 for a 7-night cruise, going by what its reservation system quoted for a sailing in mid-November 2026: Economy Lot B was cheapest, the Express Lot came to $209.52 and the covered SMP Garage cost most. The port posts no daily rate, so check your own dates. Private shuttle lots quoted less, from $145 at Lighthouse Parking, and Galveston Park N Cruise lists $140 for 7 days outdoors. Compare the lots.

Where do you park for a Carnival or Royal Caribbean cruise out of Galveston?

For a Carnival cruise from Galveston's Terminal 25 or 28, the port's Express Lot and SMP Garage are a short walk away, and Economy Lots A and B run a free shuttle. Royal Caribbean guests at Terminal 10 can walk from the North, South or Pier 12 lots. MSC and Norwegian guests at Terminal 16 get Lot 2, a 5-minute walk, or the covered Terminal 16 Garage. Private lots nearby run their own shuttles. See every lot.

How far is EZ Cruise Parking from the Galveston cruise terminal?

EZ Cruise Parking says its Galveston lots are two blocks from the cruise terminal, and we measured about 0.3 miles from its address to Terminal 25. Its shuttles carry passengers and luggage to the terminals from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on sailing days, or you can park and walk. For a 7-night sailing in mid-November 2026 it quoted $182.34 for covered parking with the shuttle, or $167.18 if you walk.

Can I park an RV or oversize vehicle at the Galveston cruise port?

Yes. The Port of Galveston parks RVs in its economy lots, which have a free shuttle to the terminals. Tall vehicles can't use the port's SMP Garage, which has a height clearance of 6 ft 8 in. Port parking can be reserved online, usually up to 18 months before you sail.

Hotels

What hotels in Galveston have cruise parking or a shuttle to the port?

Six Galveston hotels we checked offer cruise parking or a ride to the port. Avenue O Bed and Breakfast offers free transfers and free cruise parking, with limits. The Tremont House has a Park & Sail package and a paid ride to the terminal. Holiday Inn Resort, The San Luis Resort and Moody Gardens Hotel sell cruise packages that include rides to the port, and Hilton Galveston Island Resort has a package with parking for up to 7 nights. See what each includes.

Can I walk from my hotel to the Galveston cruise terminal?

Yes, from downtown Galveston near Terminal 25: The Tremont House says it is within walking distance of the port and lists Terminal 25 at 0.3 miles. Check which terminal you sail from first. The terminals are spread along Harborside Drive, and Terminal 10, which Royal Caribbean uses, is about a mile east of Terminal 25. The Seawall hotels are about 3 miles from Terminal 25, too far to walk with luggage.

Getting there

What is the closest airport to the Galveston cruise port, and how far is it?

Houston's William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) is the closest commercial airport to the Galveston cruise port: about 42 miles by road and about a 45-minute drive. George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) is about 71 miles and roughly 1.5 hours away. Galveston's own Scholes International handles private and charter flights only, so you can't fly into it on an airline. Ways to get from each airport.

Is there a shuttle service from the Houston airports to the Galveston cruise port?

Yes. Galveston Express runs a shared shuttle between both Houston airports and the Galveston cruise terminals, seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., at $45 per person one way. Carnival sells its own sailing-day transfer if your flight lands at Bush Intercontinental by 11:30 a.m. or Hobby by noon, and the Port of Galveston says taxis, Uber and Lyft serve the port from both airports.

Embarkation day

What time should I arrive at the Galveston cruise terminal?

Arrive at the Galveston cruise terminal inside the check-in slot your cruise line gives you at online check-in; turning up earlier won't get you aboard sooner. The Port of Galveston says its terminals usually open check-in around 10:30 to 11 a.m. and that noon to 2 p.m. is the busiest stretch. Disney won't let you into the terminal before your Port Arrival Time, and Carnival takes checked bags until 2 hours before departure. Port parking opens at 9 a.m. on most sailing days. More on embarkation day.

Where does Royal Caribbean cruise to out of Galveston?

Royal Caribbean's cruises from Galveston are mostly 4- to 8-night Western Caribbean sailings to Cozumel, Costa Maya and RoatΓ‘n, and some 8-night trips add Perfect Day at CocoCay, its private island in the Bahamas. MSC and Norwegian visit the same three ports, while Carnival and Disney also call at Progreso. See the ports and our guides.
