Quick answers

Facts last checked .

How we checked these answers

Every answer is built from facts we checked against the sources below and cross-checked with recent port guides. Where sources disagreed, the answer says so instead of guessing a number.

Getting ashore

Where do cruise ships dock in Mykonos?

Cruise ships in Mykonos either dock at the New Port in Tourlos, about 1.5 miles north of town, or anchor in the bay and tender passengers to the Old Port in Mykonos Town. Norwegian lists Mykonos as a port where ships can dock or anchor depending on the call, and Virgin Voyages says it depends on ship size and traffic. Your ship's daily program says which one you've got.

Do Royal Caribbean and Celebrity ships dock or tender in Mykonos?

Celebrity ships usually dock at the New Port in Tourlos, according to Celebrity's own port guide, while Virgin Voyages says its ships typically anchor and tender passengers into town. We couldn't confirm Royal Caribbean's usual arrangement from its own pages, and every line can switch between docking and tendering on the day, so check your ship's daily program or app.

How far is Mykonos Town from the cruise port?

The New Port at Tourlos is about 1.5 miles (2 to 3 km) from Mykonos Town, too far for a comfortable walk along the busy road. Most people take the Sea Bus, a small boat that leaves from in front of the cruise pier about every 30 minutes in season and reaches the Old Port in 10 to 15 minutes for a few euros. Celebrity also runs a shuttle, and taxis wait at the port.

Can you walk from the cruise port to Mykonos Town?

From the New Port you can, but it's about 1.5 miles and 30 to 40 minutes along a busy road with gaps in the sidewalk, so most people ride the Sea Bus or shuttle instead. If your ship tenders, you land at the Old Port and Manto Mavrogenous Square is about 0.3 miles away. Once in town everything is on foot; the stroll map shows the walks.

Is there anything to do at the Mykonos cruise port?

Not much at the New Port itself: it has a shaded passenger terminal, ticket offices and a few kiosks, and Agios Stefanos beach is about a 15-minute walk north. The reason to get off is Mykonos Town, a short Sea Bus ride away, where Celebrity says it's easy to stroll the lanes to the windmills and Little Venice on foot. The Archaeological Museum by the Old Port is 5 euros, per the Ephorate of Antiquities.

Are taxis easy to get at the Mykonos port?

Taxis wait at the New Port and the Old Port, and Celebrity says Mykonos taxis charge fixed rates, but there are rarely enough of them when several ships or ferries arrive together. We couldn't find a current fare table, so agree the price first. The Sea Bus into town and the public KTEL buses from the Old Port to the beaches skip the queue.

Beaches & water

Is there a beach near the Mykonos cruise port?

Yes. Agios Stefanos is the closest beach to the New Port, about 0.3 miles north along the bay, and Celebrity puts it 15 minutes' walk away. If you're tendered to the Old Port, Megali Ammos on the south edge of Mykonos Town is about 0.9 miles, a 20-minute walk past the windmills. We haven't confirmed sunbed prices at either.

How do I get to Paradise Beach or Elia Beach from the Mykonos cruise port?

Neither is a walk: Celebrity puts Elia Beach about seven miles from town, and Paradise and Super Paradise are on the south coast. Celebrity says caiques (small beach boats) from the Old Port skip the taxi lines for Platis Gialos, Paradise and Super Paradise, and KTEL buses run to the beaches from town. A taxi works too, but queues build on busy days.

Things to do

What to do in Mykonos from a cruise ship?

Most cruisers in Mykonos do one of three things: wander Mykonos Town on foot to the windmills and Little Venice, take the 30-minute boat to the ruins of Delos, or head to a south-coast beach by caique, bus or taxi. From the New Port, ride the Sea Bus in first. For a short call, our 2-hour plans stay in town.

Can I visit Delos from a cruise stop in Mykonos?

Yes. Boats to Delos leave from the Old Port in Mykonos Town and take about 30 minutes, and the site is open 08:00 to 19:30 with a 20-euro ticket, according to the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades. Celebrity's port guide warns to check the boat times so you're back for your ship's departure, so pick an early boat and a return with margin.

How do I get from the Mykonos port to Little Venice?

Little Venice is about 0.5 miles, an 11-minute walk, from the Old Port, where tenders and the Sea Bus from the New Port both land. Follow the harbour round past Manto Mavrogenous Square to the west side of town; the windmills are a few minutes further on. The stroll map shows the route's stops.

What excursions can I take from the cruise port in Mykonos?

Boat trips to Delos and Rhenia are the most-booked excursions on GetYourGuide's Mykonos page: on 2026-10-16 the top pick had 4.6 stars from 1,756 reviews and a Delos and Rhenia BBQ cruise had 4.8 from 1,345. Guided Delos day trips and an island tour with cruise terminal pickup were next. Our Pro Picks and time plans show the ones that fit your hours.

Money & documents

What currency is used in Mykonos, and do I need to tip?

Mykonos uses the euro. Celebrity's port guide says Greece doesn't have a big tipping culture: 10 to 15 percent is customary in a restaurant for good service, there's no need to tip in a bar beyond rounding up, and a tour guide can get around 10 percent of the tour price if you're happy.

Do I need a passport for a cruise stop in Mykonos?

Yes, carry your passport. The U.S. Embassy in Greece says U.S. citizens can visit as tourists without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the birth-certificate option applies to closed-loop cruises and that you may still be required to present a passport in the countries your ship visits, so a Mykonos call is a reason to bring one.

Safety

Is Mykonos safe for cruise passengers?

The US State Department rates Greece Level 1: Exercise Normal Precautions. The rating covers the whole country; we found no separate warning for Mykonos.
