Quick answers

Facts last checked .

How we checked these answers

Every answer is built from facts we checked against the sources below and cross-checked with recent port guides. Where sources disagreed, the answer says so instead of guessing a number.

Getting ashore

Where do cruise ships dock in Grenada?

Large cruise ships in Grenada dock at the Melville Street Cruise Terminal in St. George's, the capital, and you walk out through the Esplanade Mall straight into downtown. Smaller ships may use the Inner Harbour and land on the Carenage waterfront instead, and on busy days extra ships anchor off the city and bring passengers in by tender.

Does Carnival or Royal Caribbean go to Grenada?

Carnival does: Carnival Venezia is in the October 2026 schedule for St. George's, and Royal Caribbean doesn't appear in published arrival lists for October to December 2026. Princess, Celebrity, Norwegian, MSC, P&O Cruises, TUI, Marella and AIDA also call that season, along with smaller lines such as Azamara, Oceania, Windstar and Star Clippers. Big ships usually dock at Melville Street; check your line's itinerary for your date.

Is it worth getting off the ship in Grenada?

Yes: the Grenada cruise terminal opens straight into St. George's, and the spice market, the House of Chocolate and the national museum are all within about 6 minutes' walk. The terminal itself has a café, free Wi-Fi and information desks, and the Esplanade Mall next door has more than 50 shops, including duty-free. Walking around town and the Carenage costs nothing.

Is Grenada walkable from the cruise port?

Yes. The Melville Street terminal is in St. George's itself: Market Square is about 0.2 miles away, around 6 minutes on foot, and the Carenage waterfront about 0.4 miles, 10 minutes through the Sendall Tunnel. The town is hilly, and Fort George is an uphill walk above the terminal. The stroll map shows the stops.

Is there a beach near the Grenada cruise port?

Not one you can walk to: there's no confirmed swimming beach within walking distance of the Grenada cruise terminal. The usual choice is Grand Anse Beach, about two miles of sand roughly 2 miles south of the terminal by road, reached by taxi or water taxi from St. George's.

How do I get from the cruise port to Grand Anse Beach?

Take a taxi or a water taxi: both run from St. George's to Grand Anse Beach, about 2 miles south of the cruise terminal, and taxis wait outside the port. Agree the fare, and whether it's in US or EC dollars, before you set off. Local buses also run Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., for EC$2.50–6.50 depending on the route, the Grenada Tourism Authority says.

Things to do

What to do in Grenada from a cruise ship?

In Grenada you can walk St. George's on your own or book a tour from the port. Tours here run from a one-hour Model T replica ride around town to 3.5–5 hour island trips taking in Annandale Waterfall, the Grand Etang crater lake, spices, chocolate and rum, plus river tubing and snorkeling at the Underwater Sculpture Park. The market and chocolate shop are about 6 minutes' walk from the ship.

Can I see the Underwater Sculpture Park from the cruise port?

Yes: tours from the Grenada cruise port reach the Underwater Sculpture Park by snorkel, a clear-bottom boat or an air-line dive. Bookable options include a 2-hour clear-boat trip from Grand Anse, a 2.5–3.5 hour dive from Molinere, and a 4-hour sail and snorkel from Grand Anse with a reef stop at Flamingo Bay.

What to bring back from Grenada?

Spices and chocolate are the easy picks near the ship: St. George's Market Square is the town's spice market, with set prices so there's no haggling, and the House of Chocolate on Young Street sells chocolates made from Grenada-grown cacao. Both are about 6 minutes' walk from the cruise terminal.

Money, safety and practicalities

Do they take US dollars in Grenada?

Yes, generally: Grenada's currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar, and the Grenada Tourism Authority says US dollars are accepted, though Celebrity notes smaller local businesses may not take them. Check whether a price is in EC or US dollars before you pay. Restaurants add an 8% government tax and most add a 10% service charge, so extra tips are optional.

Is Grenada safe for cruise passengers?

The US State Department rates Grenada Level 2, 'Exercise Increased Caution'. The Grenada Tourism Authority says the tap water is very safe to drink, and bottled water is sold too.

Do I need a passport for Grenada on a cruise?

The Grenada Tourism Authority says visitors need a valid passport, though British, Canadian and US citizens may show photo proof of citizenship instead. Your cruise line sets the documents you need to sail, so follow its rules, and note the authority's reminder that US citizens need a passport to enter or re-enter the US.

What time zone is Grenada in?

Grenada is on Atlantic Standard Time, which the Grenada Tourism Authority puts an hour ahead of US Eastern time. Go by the all-aboard time in your ship's daily program; most calls in the 2026 schedule run from about 7 or 8 a.m. to 5–7 p.m.

Is there free Wi-Fi at the Grenada cruise terminal?

Yes: the St. George's cruise terminal has free Wi-Fi, according to Celebrity Cruises, along with a café, restrooms and information desks.
