Quick answers

Facts last checked .

How we checked these answers

Every answer is built from facts we checked against the sources below and cross-checked with recent port guides. Where sources disagreed, the answer says so instead of guessing a number.

Getting ashore

Where do cruise ships dock in Aruba?

Cruise ships in Aruba dock alongside at the Aruba Cruise Terminal on L.G. Smith Boulevard in Oranjestad, so it isn't a tender port and you walk off by gangway. Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Norwegian, MSC, Princess, Holland America, Disney and Virgin Voyages all call here, and no line has a permanent berth. Your ship will tell you its berth number before arrival, so check the daily program or your cruise line's app.

Can you walk around Oranjestad from the cruise port?

Yes, you can walk to downtown Oranjestad from the Aruba cruise port: Renaissance Marketplace is about 0.3 miles and 8 minutes away, Royal Plaza Mall about 0.2 miles, and Fort Zoutman about 0.5 miles. The Aruba Tourism Authority says the shops, bars, restaurants and casinos are all within walking distance, and the route is flat. The stroll map shows each stop with its distance.

Is there anything to do at the Aruba cruise port?

Yes: the Aruba cruise terminal puts you on foot to downtown shops, the marina and Fort Zoutman within about 12 minutes, and Surfside Beach is roughly a 15 to 20 minute walk. The terminal has air conditioning, restrooms, taxi stands and tour desks, and shore excursions leave from right outside it. A free open-air streetcar runs through downtown most days, so you can see a lot without paying for a tour. The stroll map lists what's in reach.

Is there a free trolley in Oranjestad?

Yes, Oranjestad has a free open-air streetcar that runs through downtown, typically from about 10 am to 5 pm with a car every 15 to 30 minutes. It doesn't run on Sundays, so don't plan around it on a Sunday call. Hours can change, so check the schedule at the tourist information desk, and walk if it isn't running: the main downtown sights are 5 to 12 minutes from the ship.

How much is a taxi from the Aruba cruise port to Eagle Beach or Palm Beach?

Aruba taxis have no meters: fares are fixed by the government for up to four passengers, and the minimum fare is US$10. Guides put the ride from the cruise port to Eagle Beach at about $10 each way and to Palm Beach at about $14. A US$5 surcharge applies on Sundays, holidays and between 11 pm and 7 am. You can pay in US dollars or Aruban florins, and every taxi shows a QR code linking to the official fare list at taxi.aw.

What time do I need to be back on the ship in Aruba, and does Aruba change its clocks?

Be back on board by the all-aboard time printed in your ship's daily program. Aruba is on Atlantic Standard Time (UTCโˆ’4) all year and doesn't change its clocks, but your ship's time may differ, so check which one the all-aboard uses. Royal Caribbean says its ship will not wait for any guest faring on their own, so leave a buffer when you book a tour that returns you to the port.

Beaches & water

Can you walk to a beach from the Aruba cruise port?

Yes, but only one beach: Surfside Beach is about a mile from the Aruba cruise port, a walk of roughly 15 to 20 minutes (the Aruba Tourism Authority says about 15). It's a flat, mostly unshaded route. Eagle Beach, the long white-sand one, is not a walk: it's about a 10-minute taxi ride at a fixed fare of around $10 each way, and Palm Beach is farther. See the beach on the stroll map.

Where do you go snorkeling in Aruba from the cruise port?

The easiest snorkeling from the Aruba cruise port is on a land tour that includes it: the Natural Pool jeep tour lists snorkel gear, and the UTV tour ends with a swim and snorkel at Mangel Halto Beach. Boat snorkel trips mostly leave from the Palm Beach side or Renaissance Marina; the shipwreck sail from Renaissance Marina runs about 4.5 hours until sunset, so it suits a late departure. Surfside Beach, a short walk away, has calm water. See the half-day plans.

Excursions

What are the best excursions in Aruba from the cruise port?

The most-booked Aruba excursions from the cruise port are off-road and island-loop day trips: the 4x4 UTV adventure, the Natural Pool and caves jeep tour, a half-day island bus tour and a horseback ride to the coast all have well over a hundred reviews on GetYourGuide. Several include pickup at the port. Our three Scout Favorites cover an UTV, a jeep and an easy bus option.

Do Aruba shore excursions pick you up at the cruise port?

Many Aruba excursions do pick up at the cruise port: the Natural Pool jeep tour and the UTV tour include hotel or port pickup, the countryside tour drops you at the hotel or cruise port, and the 3-hour highlights tour includes cruise-ship pickup. Other listings say pickup is included without naming the port, so confirm the meeting point when you book. Shore excursions also depart from right outside the terminal, near the tour desks.

Money, documents & safety

What currency do you use in Aruba, and are US dollars accepted?

Aruba's currency is the Aruban florin, but US dollars are accepted everywhere around the cruise port and downtown. The Aruba Tourism Authority says the U.S. dollar is accepted everywhere, and taxis take dollars at the official US$1 = Afl. 1.80 rate. Change may come back as a mix of dollars and florins, so you don't need to exchange money for a port day.

Is there free Wi-Fi at the Aruba cruise port?

The Aruba Tourism Authority says there is free Wi-Fi just outside the Aruba Cruise Port, so you can message home once you step off the ship. One guide reports Wi-Fi inside the terminal building too, but the official source places it outside. The official page doesn't promise Wi-Fi anywhere else on the island.

Do you need a passport for Aruba on a cruise?

US citizens on a closed-loop cruise can re-enter the US with a birth certificate plus a government photo ID, according to US Customs and Border Protection, but CBP warns the countries you visit may still require a passport. A passport is also needed to fly home if you miss the ship in Aruba, so bring it. Check your cruise line's document rules for Aruba before you sail.

Is Aruba safe, and is there a travel advisory?

Aruba is Level 1, the lowest level, on the US State Department's travel advisory scale: "Exercise Normal Precautions" (updated August 19, 2026). The department says petty crime is most likely in popular tourist locations, so watch your belongings, and that it's illegal to bring in guns, ammunition or even spent casings.
