Quick answers

Facts last checked .

How we checked these answers

Every answer is built from facts we checked against the sources below and cross-checked with recent port guides. Where sources disagreed, the answer says so instead of guessing a number.

Getting ashore

Where do cruise ships dock in Kusadasi?

Cruise ships in Kusadasi dock at Ege Port, the cruise terminal on the waterfront in the middle of town, so there's no tender. The operator lists 8 berths on two finger piers that take up to four large ships at once. Norwegian, Princess and Celebrity all say their ships dock there; your ship's daily program gives the berth.

Is there anything to do at the Kusadasi cruise port?

Yes. The Kusadasi terminal has duty-free shops, and you leave the port through the Scala Nuova shopping village with its cafes, according to the port operator. Beyond that, the old town and the caravanserai are a 5 to 10 minute walk, and Pigeon Island's fortress is about 15 minutes along the waterfront, so you can fill a few hours without a tour.

Can you walk from the Kusadasi cruise port to town?

Yes. Kusadasi's cruise port opens straight onto the town: Princess and Celebrity both call it a short walk, and the old-town bazaar and the Öküz Mehmet Paşa Caravanserai are about 0.2 miles, a 5 to 10 minute stroll. The stroll map shows the walks from the terminal.

Ephesus

How far is Ephesus from Kusadasi cruise port?

Ephesus is about 8 to 12 miles inland from the Kusadasi cruise port, a 20 to 30 minute drive, so it isn't walkable. Princess puts the port about 8 miles from the ruins, and most cruisers go by tour, taxi or shared minibus.

How do I get to Ephesus from the Kusadasi port?

From the Kusadasi port you can take a taxi, a shared minibus (dolmuş) or a tour to Ephesus. Taxis wait outside the terminal; agree the fare before you set off, and Celebrity suggests asking whether the driver takes cards. Dolmuş minibuses leave from the main road outside the port for Selçuk, a 15 to 20 minute walk from the site, and are cheap but less predictable.

When is Ephesus open, and how much is the ticket?

Türkiye's Ministry of Culture and Tourism lists the Ancient City of Ephesus as open every day from 08:00 to 18:00, with the ticket office closing at 17:30. The ministry page shows no price; tour listings that don't include entry give 40 euros for Ephesus and 15 euros for the House of the Virgin Mary, so check whether your tour includes it.

What are the best Ephesus shore excursions from Kusadasi?

The most-reviewed shore excursions on GetYourGuide's Kusadasi page are small-group Ephesus tours for cruise passengers: on 2026-10-16 one had 4.8 stars from 1,955 reviews and another, from $22.89, had 4.8 from 1,121. A tour that adds the House of the Virgin Mary had 4.8 from 1,087. Our Pro Picks and time plans list the ones that meet you at the port.

Will my Ephesus tour stop at carpet or leather shops?

It might: many Kusadasi Ephesus tour listings say the guide may suggest a stop at shops selling handmade goods, and that it's optional. A local guide also warns about 'free' presentations at carpet and leather shops near the port. If you'd rather skip them, say so when you book, or pick a listing that says it has no shopping stops.

Beaches & walks

Are there beaches near the Kusadasi cruise port?

Yes. Kuşadası's town beach (Halk Plajı) is about 0.6 miles north along the bay from the cruise terminal, a 13-minute walk, and the small Papaz Hamamı beach by the Pigeon Island causeway is about 0.5 miles. Ladies Beach, which Celebrity suggests for swimming, is about a 10-minute drive south. We haven't confirmed facilities at any of them.

Can I walk to Pigeon Island from the Kusadasi cruise port?

Yes. Pigeon Island (Güvercinada) is about 0.7 miles from the Kusadasi cruise terminal along the waterfront, a 10 to 15 minute walk. Go Türkiye describes it as a small island with a Genoese fortress, joined to the shore by a narrow causeway. It's on the stroll map.

Things to do

What to do in Kusadasi from a cruise ship?

Most cruisers in Kusadasi go to Ephesus, the ancient city a 20 to 30 minute drive inland, on a tour timed to the ship. If you'd rather stay close, the old town and the caravanserai are a few minutes' walk from the terminal and Pigeon Island about 15. Our 5-hour plans cover the Ephesus tours.

Is there shopping at the Kusadasi cruise port?

Yes. The Kusadasi cruise terminal has duty-free shops, and the Scala Nuova shopping village inside the port has more shops and places to eat, according to the port operator. The old-town bazaar is a few minutes' walk beyond, where bargaining is normal for souvenirs, leather and textiles and most shops take cards.

Money & documents

What currency is used in Kusadasi? Can I pay in euros?

Kusadasi uses the Turkish lira, but Celebrity says euros are also accepted in many restaurants and bars, at a varying exchange rate, and most shops near the port take cards. Celebrity adds that tipping in any form is considered polite and welcomed. We couldn't confirm whether US dollars are accepted.

Do I need a visa or passport for a cruise stop in Kusadasi?

You need your passport but not a visa: Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says U.S. ordinary passport holders are exempt from a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the birth-certificate option only applies to closed-loop cruises and that you may still need a passport in the countries your ship visits.

Safety

Is Kusadasi safe for cruise passengers?

The US State Department rates Turkey Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution. That rating covers the whole country; read the full advisory on travel.state.gov for its reasons and any areas it singles out before you sail.
