Quick answers

How we checked these answers

Every answer is built from facts we checked against the sources below and cross-checked with recent port guides. Where sources disagreed, the answer says so instead of guessing a number.

Terminals & cruise lines

Where do cruise ships dock in Istanbul?

Cruise ships starting in Istanbul board at Galataport, the underground cruise terminal on the Karaköy waterfront, on the European side of the city. Galataport says the terminal entrance is in Block D. MSC gives the address as Meclis-i Mebusan Caddesi No: 8, Beyoğlu, and AROYA's sailings also leave from here. Passport control, check-in and luggage are all below the promenade. See the terminal.

What cruise lines sail from Istanbul?

AROYA's site lists week-long round trips on its ship AROYA, and its winter season from Galataport runs to April 2027. Other lines call in Istanbul too, so check your cruise documents for where yours starts. See the terminal.

Where is the cruise terminal entrance at Galataport?

Galataport's cruise terminal entrance is in Block D, the port's FAQ says. Galataport is a long stretch of waterfront, so head for Block D rather than the first gate you see. The Easy Point left-luggage desk is at the Visitor Center by that entrance. If you're driving, Galataport's valet takes cars at E Block, the Fındıklı entrance, car park level P1 and on Kemankeş Street. See the terminal.

Can you walk into Istanbul from the cruise port?

Yes: Galataport sits in Karaköy, so you step off into the city. Galata Tower is about 0.5 miles away on foot, with a steep climb at the end. The old city is across the Golden Horn: the Grand Bazaar is about 1.4 miles on foot, or take the T1 tram from Tophane to Sultanahmet in about 15 minutes. Seven hotels are within a 0.45-mile walk of the terminal. See the hotels.

Where do cruises from Istanbul go?

The Peninsula Istanbul is inside Galataport, 0.29 miles from the terminal. Nabu Hotel Karaköy, Witt Istanbul Suites, JW Marriott Istanbul Bosphorus and Novotel Istanbul Bosphorus are 0.3 to 0.4 miles away. Ferman Port Hotel and 10 Karaköy are 0.45 miles. See the hotels.

Parking

How much is parking at the Istanbul cruise port?

Galataport doesn't publish a daily or multi-day parking rate for its Istanbul cruise port garage. Its own page says parking is free for the first 30 minutes and charged after that, paid at the payment points or in the Galataport app. MSC guests can book parking through MSC, which shows its rates inside your booking. No private cruise lot with a published price was found. See parking.

Where do you park for a cruise from Istanbul?

To park for a cruise from Istanbul, use Galataport's own underground garage, right under the cruise terminal. It holds 2,400 cars, is open 24 hours, and you enter from the Fındıklı or Karaköy side. Galataport's valet runs from 10:00 to midnight if you'd rather hand over the keys. MSC guests can also book parking through MSC. See parking.

Getting there

How far is Istanbul Airport from the cruise port?

Istanbul has two airports, and both are about an hour from the cruise port by taxi, MSC says. Istanbul Airport (IST) is 49.6 km (30.8 mi) by road, on the same European side as Galataport. Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) is 42.9 km (26.7 mi) away on the Asian side, so the drive crosses the Bosphorus. Traffic sets the real time. See getting there.

How do I get from Istanbul Airport to the cruise port?

From Istanbul Airport to the cruise port, most people take a taxi from the rank outside the terminal: about an hour, MSC says, depending on traffic. By rail, ride from the airport to Gayrettepe, then take a taxi of about 10 minutes to Galataport. From Sabiha Gökçen it's a taxi of about an hour, or rail and tram with three changes. We found no free airport shuttle to the port. See getting there.

Can I Uber from Istanbul Airport to the cruise port?

Yes, the Uber app works in Istanbul, so you can ride from the airport to the cruise port. Yellow taxis also wait at the ranks outside both airports. MSC puts the taxi ride at about an hour from either airport, and traffic in Istanbul is notoriously slow. Neither MSC nor Galataport publishes a fare. See getting there.

Embarkation day

What time should I arrive at the Istanbul cruise terminal?

MSC sets your arrival time at the Istanbul cruise terminal: your check-in slot is on your cruise ticket. The lead guest can change it in web check-in until 2 days before sailing. Arrive early and you may wait outside; arrive after your slot and you can be turned away. AROYA guests should follow the time in their documents. Galataport also sells PortPass, a paid meet-and-greet that walks you through fast-track lanes.

Can I store luggage at Galataport?

Yes, Galataport has a left-luggage service. Easy Point keeps lockers at the Visitor Center by the Block D terminal entrance and on car park level P1, for carry-on, medium and large bags. Lockers are rented by the hour; Galataport says to contact Easy Point for fares. It's handy if you arrive early or have a late flight after disembarking. See the terminal.
